Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms

The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC) is a year-long professional development opportunity for U.S. elementary, middle, and high school teachers to develop skills for preparing students for a competitive global economy. Fulbright TGC equips teachers to bring an international perspective to their schools through targeted training, experience abroad, and global collaboration.

The Grosvenor Teacher Fellow (GTF) Program is a professional development opportunity for Pre-K-12 educators made possible by a partnership between Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society. An annual competitive application process is used to select educators and host them aboard Lindblad Expeditions’ voyages for a life-changing, field-based experience.Grosvenor Teacher Fellows are an integral part of the National Geographic community, working to further students’ understanding of the planet and empower them to generate solutions for a healthier and more sustainable future. They help ensure that the next generation is armed with geographic knowledge and global awareness.

Through the NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship, educators develop the knowledge and skills to integrate global competency into their daily classroom instruction, advocate for global competency in their schools and districts, and help students to thrive in our increasingly interconnected world. Fellows transform their classrooms to give students a global perspective.

NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellows participate in a 12-month professional development program that includes in-person workshops, online coursework, webinars by leading experts, peer learning, and an international field study experience.

The NEA Foundation partners with EF Educational Tours, a global leader in international education, to design transformative field study experiences for the Fellows.

Global Exploration for Educators Organization

GEEO is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and assisting as many teachers as possible to travel abroad and then share their experiences with their students upon their return to the classroom.

Understanding the world around us has never been more important. For most of us, that understanding begins at an early age, in the classroom. Students are looking to their teachers for knowledge about a world that is not yet part of their own lived experience. By spending time abroad, forming international relationships and exploring overseas environments, teachers gain fresh perspectives that deeply enrich their students' learning and global awareness.

The Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom® Albert H. Small Student & Teacher Institute takes students and teachers on the journey of a lifetime to explore WWII history through the life of a Silent Hero who is memorialized in the Normandy American Cemetery. This program is made possible through the generous support of Mr. Albert H. Small.

TOP is a public / private partnership that promotes education about Germany, fosters intercultural dialogue, and provides the opportunity for North American social studies educators, STEM educators, and decision makers to experience Germany.

Teach Earth offers teachers the opportunity to experience scientific research first-hand, providing you with the tools to make science come alive in your classroom. Each year, we select talented K-12 teachers from all subject areas to be part of this unique professional development opportunity. From the edge of the Arctic to the Wetlands of Mexico City, these teachers collect data on climate change, ecology, wildlife, and more. Teachers have the opportunity to learn the scientific process first hand and help to solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. Teachers return to the classroom with new perspectives and knowledge, invigorated and inspired to share the experience of real discovery with their students

Fulbright Hays Summer Seminars

The program provides short-term study and travel seminars abroad for U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities for the purpose of improving their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries. Support is generally made available through interagency agreements. The Department of Education transfers funds through the State Department to Fulbright commissions in various countries to pay the costs associated with administering seminars. This partnership allows the program to use the services and expertise of binational organizations to plan and conduct seminars for U.S. educators.

Earth Expeditions is a groundbreaking global program supporting university courses, degree programs, and collaborative projects that are making a difference in Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. Through Earth Expeditions courses, our mission is to build an alliance of individuals with first-hand knowledge of inquiry-driven, community-based learning for the benefit of ecological communities, student achievement, and global understanding.

The Global Competence Certificate

THE GLOBAL COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE (GCC) is the premier, online, graduate-level certificate program in global competence education for in-service educators. The GCC prepares educators to better understand global issues, teach for global competence, and facilitate students' development as globally informed, engaged citizens.

DEVELOPED BY LEADING EXPERTS IN THE FIELD OF GLOBAL COMPETENCE EDUCATION — Teachers College, Columbia University, World Savvy, and Asia Society -- and taught by renowned educators, the Global Competence Certificate program addresses a critical need faced by schools and educators to prepare students with the skills, behaviors, values and attitudes that they need to succeed in a world that is more interconnected and interdependent than ever before.

Spotlight on Turkey Educational Program

Organized in cooperation with WACA and funded by TCF, the program runs a full calendar year. It focuses on giving an overview of the history of Anatolia and Turkey with a special emphasis on Turkish culture to American educators and the general public. With Teacher Workshops on Turkey in the spring, Teachers Study Tours to Turkey in the summer, and cultural programs for the public in the fall, the program emphasizes classroom learning and public education about Turkey and its contributions to the global community. As of 2015, 575 American teachers visited Turkey on the TCF Teacher Study Tours and over 3,500 teachers learned about Turkey at the Teacher Workshops with an estimated student impact of nearly 370,000.

Our engaging face-to-face and online programs, curriculum resources, and international study tours enhance global understanding and help thousands of teachers every year bring the wider world to their students.

Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Exchange Programs

The U.S. Department of State offers merit-based scholarships for American high school students to study abroad from three weeks to an academic year. Students live with host families, engage with local schools, and gain skills to be competitive in the global workforce. Previous language study is not required for most programs.
