The Top 5 Things To Do in Edinburgh, Scotland with Tweens and Teens

I recently visited Edinburgh, Scotland with a group of tweens and teens and I was amazed at how much there is to do with this age group. It is a perfect size….easy to explore and navigate (and to give teens some freedom) but large enough to have tons to keep everyone entertained. Here is my list of must-do itinerary items:

  1. Take an Underground Vault Ghost Tour

Edinburgh is said to be one of the most haunted cities in Europe. There are many ghost tours available that will take you to some of the city's most haunted places. Tweens and teens will love being scared and learning about the city's dark history.

2. Visit Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland. It's a stunning castle with a long and fascinating history. Tweens and teens will love exploring the castle grounds and learning about its past.

3. Explore the National Museum of Scotland

Dolly the Sheep was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell. She was born on July 5, 1996, at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Dolly the Sheep was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell. She was born on July 5, 1996, at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Dolly's remains are now on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. She is displayed in a rotating plexiglass cubicle in the Science and Technology Gallery. The cubicle is designed to keep Dolly's remains at a constant temperature and humidity.

Don’t let the name fool you into thinking this is just a museum on Scottish history This museum has so much to offer, including tons of interactive exhibits on science (including formula 1 racing), fashion, and technology. This is sure to be a favorite with so much to do and see.

My Tips: Make sure you venture up to the top deck of the museum (only 1 elevator will take you there) for one of the best views in all of Edinburgh and you will want to allow at least 2-3 hours of exploration time. Even that will not seem like enough,.

4.Take a Walk Through the Royal Mile

The Royal Mile is a historic street that runs through the heart of Edinburgh. It's a great place to people-watch and do some shopping. Tweens and teens will also enjoy visiting the many museums and shops that line the street.

5.Walk up Calton Hill for Amazing Views

Calton Hill is a popular tourist destination and for good reason. It offers panoramic views of the city and the surrounding countryside, and the hill is also a popular spot for recreation, with walking trails, a number of public gardens, and a number of historical monuments. There are many instragramable spots for that perfect picture and a wonderful place to take in the sunset after a full day of sightseeing. I promise it is worth the walk up!

BONUS: If you plan to visit during the Christmas holiday season, don’t miss the Christmas markets. If you don’t mind the colder weather, this is one of my favorite times of year to visit and your tweens and teens will love the lights, the rides, the food, and the shopping!
